Athletic Director, University of the Pacific
“It's not just science that we keep to ourselves, it's scientific results that the athlete is aware of and cognizant of and interested in.”
Situated amongst large Pac-12 schools and the challenge of a new conference (WCC), UOP Athletic Director Ted Leland envisioned the design of an athletic performance that could separate UOP in both athletic development and recruiting. These athletes would need to embody a “blue collar” culture, working very hard but in a manner that wasted no time against competition who could afford to be less efficient. Leland explains why Pacific chose Sparta, “Pacific Athletics is very excited to partner with Sparta as we move into the WCC. We think the scientific analytics and expertise provided by the Sparta Software and evaluation tools will give a cutting-edge advantage to all of our student-athletes.”
In May 2013, UOP brought in the Sparta Platform to help improve communication and transparency within their entire athletic department performance. The final aspect has involved a deep research collaboration with the sports medicine team and academic departments at the university. Specifically this partnership has involved research using the force plate and Sparta Software and helping to build a strength & conditioning track within the current Sports Science major.
